Kurtis "Toyz" Lau is the mid laner for Hong Kong Esports.

Toyz is originally from Hong Kong and currently lives in Taiwan. Toyz began playing League of Legends in spring 2011 when a friend introduced him to the game. He quit his first LoL game midway because he wasn't having any fun, but he tried a second game two hours later and fell in love with it.[1] Prior to League of Legends, Toyz also played games such as World of Warcraft, AION, Nobunaga's Ambition, Dragon Nest, and others.

On June 30th, 2013, Toyz retired from competitive League of Legends, citing carpal tunnel syndrome.[2] But on September 5th, 2013, Toyz announced via Facebook that he would return to the competitive game and join HK Attitude following improvement on his wrist injury. However, on December 31st, 2013, he announced that although his carpal tunnel syndrome was improving, he could recover enough for sufficient practice, and thus could not become a pro player again. [3]

Season 1

Toyz began his esports career humbly, as most professional players do. Toyz' first taste of competition was winning a low level tournament at a local net cafe. Toyz would then join CrossGaming, an esports organization based in Hong Kong at the time, becoming part of his first semi-professional team. It is here that he would also meet his future teammate, Bebe.

Season 2

Toyz would be recruited by the Taipei Assassins in April of 2012. Toyz would replace current starting mid laner, NeXAbc and be shipped along with Bebe, moving Colalin to a sub position, and MiSTakE to support from AD carry. Toyz dominated domestically, along with the rest of his team, securing a berth to the Season 2 World Championship by coming out on top at the Season Two Regionals in Taipei. The team would find themselves winning the Season 2 World Championship against Azubu Frost in Grand Finals 3-1, after dispelling heavy favorites, Moscow 5 2-1 in the Semi-Finals. Toyz is remembered for his stellar Orianna play, often being associated with the champion.

Preseason 3

Toyz would continue domestic success along with his team, easily taking the first GPL split, 2012 GPL Season 1 against the Singapore Sentinels 3-1, closing out a 38-2 season. To end 2012, Toyz and the Assassins placed 3rd at the most hailed international tournament of all time, IGN ProLeague Season 5, losing to the eventual runner-up of the tournament, Fnatic.

Season 3

The Taipei Assassins would continue their bout of dominance over the SEA region, winning over the GPL again with a 27-1 record. They would however show weakness in cross regional play, namely in NVIDIA Game Festival 2013. Toyz was elected to the Garena All-Star Team in the midseason, also participating in the Mid Lane Skill Competition at All-Star Shanghai 2013, where he would topple Misaya in the finals via tower destruction.

The team would never truly find their stride again after the break, struggling to maintain the dominance they had once had. Roster changes would occur as a result of this. Toyz would retire from competitive gaming due to his wrist injury, the same day that Stanley was also released from the team.

2014 Season

Many believed Toyz would return to competitive gaming with Hong Kong Esports in Season 4, after resting his wrist injury, but ended up stating that he would never return to competitive play. However, League fans voted for him to join the All-Star Paris 2014 Hexakill match as the sixth player on Team Fire alongside Bjergsen, Shy, WeiXiao, Archie and captain Diamond, and Toyz picked Gothic  Orianna - not only the same champion, but the same skin he picked for Orianna for the deciding game of the 2012 World Championships.

Later on in the year, With the support from Hong Kong Esports[4], Toyz would be recruited to coach Fnatic during the 2014 Season World Championship. Fnatic would go 2-4 in the group stages, tieing with LMQ for 3rd/4th, thus being eliminated from the tournament.

2015 Preseason

HKEsports would announce the formation of a new team, after many folly teams, with Toyz at the helm. It was made clear that Toyz was going to hand pick his players to compete in the new TW/HK/Macau League, the League of Legends Master Series or LMS. Toyz would form a roster, reuniting with his former top laner, Stanley, and other former TPA/TPS players: DinTer, GoDJJ, and Awei. Toyz would fail to qualify for IEM Season IX - Taipei, but would qualify along with his team for the 2015 League of Legends Master Series.

2016 Preseason

Due to a conflict with the team, Toyz was expelled from the HKESports gaming house in October 2015. He claimed he would leave due to the recent match-fixing scandal, but HKEsports claimed that he was still on the team. As a result, Toyz missed both 2015 LMS All-Star and All-Star Los Angeles 2015. He is also absent from the team's line-up in Spring 2016.
