Gone. Too quick. No fight. More. I want... more.

A voice? Unfamiliar. I see him. The Grand General. My general.

He leads. I follow. Marching. To where? I should know. I can't remember.

It all bleeds together. Does it matter? Noxus conquers. The rest? Trivial. So long... since I've tasted victory.

The war wagon rocks. Rattles. A cramped cage. Pointless ceremony. The waiting. Maddening. Faster, dogs!

There. Banners. Demacians and their walls. Cowards. Their gates will shatter. Thoughts of the massacre come easily.

Who gave the order to halt? The underlings don't answer. No familiar faces. If I do not remember, neither will history.

The cage is opened. Finally! No more waiting. WE CHARGE!

Slings and arrows? The weapons of children! Their walls will not save them!

I can taste their fear. They shrink at every blow as their barricades splinter. SOON!

Noxian drums. Demacian screams. Glory isn't accolades; glory is hot blood on your hands! This is life!

A thousand shattered corpses lie at my feet, and Demacian homes burn all around me. It's over too quickly! Just one more...

The men stare. There's fear in their eyes. If they're afraid to look upon victory, I should pluck those craven eyes out. There is no fear in the Grand General's eyes, only approval. He is pleased with this conquest.

Walking the field with the Grand General, surveying the carnage, I ache for another foe. He is hobbled, a leg wound from the battle? If it pains him, he does not show it. A true Noxian. I do not like his pet, though; it picks over the dead, having earned nothing. His war hounds were more fitting company.

Demacia will be within our grasp soon. I can feel it. I am ready to march. The Grand General insists that I rest. How can I rest when my enemies still live?

Why do we mill about? The waiting eats at me. I'm left to my own devices. The bird watches. It's unsettling. Were it anyone else's, I would crush it.

Fatigue sets in. I've never felt so... tired.

Boram? Is that you? What are you whispering?

Where am I?

Captured? Kenneled like some dog. How?

There was... the battle, the razing of the fortress, the quiet of the aftermath. Were we ambushed? I can't remember.

I was wounded. I can feel the ragged gash... but no pain. They thought me dead. Now, I am their prize. Fate is laughing. I will not be caged! They will regret sparing me.

Demacian worms! They parrot kind words, but they are ruthless all the same. This place is a dank pit. They bring no food. There is no torture. They do not make a show of me. I am left to rot.

I remember my finest hour. I held a king by his throat and felt the final beat of his heart through my tightening grasp. I don't remember letting go. Is this your vengeance, Jarvan?

I hear the triumphal march. Boots on stone. Faint, through the dungeon walls. The cadence of Noxian drums. I shall be free. Demacian blood will run in the streets!

No one came. I heard no struggle. No retreat. Did I imagine it?

There is no aching in this stump. I barely noticed the iron boot. It's caked in rust.

When did I lose my leg?

I still smell the blood. Battle. It brings comfort.

The hunger gnaws. I have not slept. Time crawls. So tired.

How long?

So dark. This pit. I remember. Grand General. His whispering. What was it?

Not who I think.

Fading. Mustn't forget.

Message. Cut. Remember.

"SION – Beware ravens."

Prior to the creation of the League of Legends, the city-states of Demacia and Noxus were locked in a brutal series of on-again-off-again wars that spanned the course of centuries. Both powers sought an advantage over the other, but Noxus was the city-state willing to forego conventional morality to achieve its goals. Only brute strength and the will to use it mattered to Noxus, and this is best exemplified in the murderous warrior, Sion. Used by the Noxians as a human battering ram, Sion would be sent thundering ahead of Noxian troops. He would mercilessly slaughter foes with his large double-bladed axe, "Chopper". His complete disregard for caution ultimately cost him his life, as he was captured and summarily executed by Demacian forces.

The Demacians thought that the beheading of Sion would be the end of his bloodthirsty ways. Death, however, was merely the beginning of Sion's rise to power. The famed Noxian assassin,  Katarina, recovered Sion's remains and Noxian necromancers reanimated the behemoth to serve Noxus once again. Sion's reanimation actually bestowed new powers on him and increased the potency of his existing abilities, making him even more of a terror to behold on the battlefield. The Noxian High Command had a powerful new weapon in their hands - one they have brought to bear as achampion in the League of Legends. Even though Sion's increased powers would make him a powerful tool for the High Command's use outside the Fields of Justice, Noxus no longer risks losing one of their greatest champions in the League to chance or circumstance; Sion's days as a front-line fighter for Noxus' military conquests are at an end.

For Noxus, death is a promotion.

Patch History

Attack Range Changes
A few champions are getting increased range. Except Nunu and Tahm Kench. You know what you did.

With preseason being the time to dig deep and reevaluate assumptions, we finally started looking at attack ranges as a stat for tuning rather than just something we did simply because characters have polearms. This is only a first pass as we start to think of melee attack ranges as in 'tiers', first of 125 and 175, but possibly even up to 225! This means a few bonuses to range for some champions that have trouble movin' around in combat or just needed the love. We'll be back relatively soon for a follow-up, but at least now Trundle won't look so goofy as he punches you with his enormous iceclub.

I'M NOT YELLING : Fixed a bug where yelling at an airborne minion would deal no damage

In a world without mana potions (and generally less early mana regeneration), we've identified a few champions for some emergency rations, giving early mana boosts until they can get their footing and purchase items to make up the deficit. This also means we can really understand which champions relied on mana potions as a crutch to limp through the early to mid game, and we can give additional love if necessary.

The following champs have +50 base mana and -3 mana scaling (net -1 mana at level 18):

"Weird bugs, man."
  • Unstoppable Onslaught.png R - Unstoppable Onslaught
    • USE YOUR OWN AXE, SION : Fixed a bug where Unstoppable Onslaught was scaling with the target's bonus attack damage instead of Sion's

W's health ratio is lower at early levels and takes longer to reactivat.

"The undead hulk that is Sion dies more often to jungle monsters than champions these days, mostly due to the strength of Soul Furnace. While we like that he takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin' (do zombies tick?), Soul Furnace's offensive capability often seals a winning lane for him once he's able to build enough Health, creating a situation for opponents where beefing up makes the shield's damage more effective (as it scales off an enemy's maximum health), while building more damage to pop Soul Furnace opens them up to being crushed by a Decimating Smash. Limiting his shield's flexibility offensively while keeping it sturdy enough to mosh 5v5 should keep him as threatening as ever without being a catch-all solid pick. "
  • Soul Furnace.png W - Soul Furnace
    • SHIELD DETONATION TIMER : 2 seconds 3 seconds
    • RATIO : 10% maximum health 6/7/8/9/10% maximum health

Q hurts monsters less. E's passthrough damage down.

"Primarily thought of as top tier laner, Cinderhulk saw Sion shamble on into the jungle and dominate without breaking a sweat. The changes themselves are simple enough, but underscore an important point - Sion should be a powerful pick for the crowd control and durability he brings to a composition, not necessarily his damage output (especially when building tank)."
  • 25px Q - Decimating Smash
    • DAMAGE TO MONSTERS : 90% 80%
  • Roar of the Slayer.png E - Roar of the Slayer

v5.5 Q's mana costs down, ratio slightly up. E's mana costs up at later ranks.

"When it comes to Super-Tanks in top lane, we actually like what Sion brings to teams and how he interacts with opponents, with the exception of his laning phase - so we're keeping things "power-netural" for the big zombie. Shifting power from screaming at minions to dropping the chopper on frightened opponents means it requires a little more effort to win the wet-noodle-war than just never running out of mana. "
  • 25px Q - Decimating Smash
    • COST : 45/50/55/60/65 mana 45 mana at all ranks
    • RATIO : 0.6-1.8 total attack damage 0.65-1.95 total attack damage
  • Roar of the Slayer.png E - Roar of the Slayer
    • COST : 35 mana at all ranks 35/40/45/50/55 mana

"Zombies already have Grievous Wounds, man."
  • Glory in Death.png Passive - Glory in Death
    • FOR THEMATIC REASONS? : Fixed a bug where if Sion was killed while affected by a healing debuff (ex. Grievous Wounds), he would revive in his zombie form with reduced health
"We're making readability improvements to a bunch of the champion portrait icons which were added or updated over the past few months."
  • PORTRAITS : The following champion portrait icons have been updated:
    • Azir, Cho'Gath, Ezreal, Gragas, Graves, Janna, Jarvan IV, Kayle, Kog'Maw, Lee Sin, Malphite, Maokai, Orianna, Renekton, Rengar, Rumble, Shyvana, Sion, Talon, Tristana, Udyr, Vayne, Veigar, Viktor, Zilean

Glory in Death's health drain has been lowered for higher levels and Sion's health regeneration growth stat has been lowered a bit.

"Sion's been climbing the ranks towards Mundo-hood when it comes to overall longevity and, couple that with the 2015 changes to regeneration, we have a real monster on our hands. In light of that, we're mainly re-mathing out Sion's passive to favor the juggernaut's beefier builds. "
  • General
    • HEALTH REGENERATION GROWTH STAT : +1 health per 5 seconds +0.8 health per 5 seconds
  • Glory in Death.png Passive - Glory in Death
    • HEALTH DECAY : 2 x level 1 + (1 x level)
    • HEALTH DECAY GROWTH : 1.4 x level 0.7 + (0.7 x level)

Lots of bug fixes along with a small mana cost shift from Sion's Q + W to E.

"We've got a little room to give Sion some post-update love, so we decided to focus on his best stat: health. Additionally, we've made a lot of quality-of-life changes & bug fixes to help Sion be the best he can be. Final note for that passive change, we changed it because it was punishing Sion for building HP, which was dumb. Now health-stacking Sion should stay up a little longer in his zombie form in comparison to a damage-focused, low-health Sion. Logic! "
  • General
    • Health per level : +70 +73
  • Glory in Death.png Passive - Glory in Death
    • COMPLICATED ZOMBIE MATH : Sion's health decay in passive form now scales with his max health (0.5% max health first tick, increasing by 0.4% max health per tick) champion level (2 x level first tick, increasing by 1.4 x level per tick)
    • FIERY DEATH : Fixed a bug where Sunfire Cape wasn't working while Sion was in his passive zombie state
    • YORICK IS HELPING : Glory in Death no longer fails to activate in cases where Sion is targeted by Yorick's Omen of Death, doesn't trigger the revive effect and then dies later on in the match
  • 25px Q - Decimating Smash
    • COST : 50/55/60/65/70 mana 45/50/55/60/65 mana
    • SMASHING PARITY : All crowd-control types now correctly refund Decimating Smash's cooldown to 2 seconds when they interrupt Sion while he's charging up
    • YELLING AND SMASHING : Sion can now properly cast Decimating Smash immediately after Roar of the Slayer
  • Soul Furnace.png W - Soul Furnace
    • COST : 70/75/80/85/90 mana 65/70/75/80/85 mana
  • PASSIVE HEALTH GAIN : 8 10 on large monster kill and champ kill/assist (minion and small monster bonus unchanged)
  • Roar of the Slayer.png E - Roar of the Slayer
    • IT'S A JUNGLE SION BUFF : Knocked back minions are no longer invulnerable to damage while in flight but can't be killed before landing unless Sion casts Smite on them
    • COST : 25 mana at all ranks 35 mana at all ranks
