Current Roster

Samsung Galaxy was a Korean a professional gaming team based in South Korea, part of KeSPA. The organization previously sponsored two sister teams, Samsung White and Samsung Blue. Founded in 2005, its StarCraft division, Samsung KHAN, counts current World Elite coach Lee Seung-Eun (Firebathero) among the stars that have been on its roster.

Season 3

Samsung initially acquired the rosters of MVP Ozone and MVP Blue in September 2013, forming Samsung Ozone and Samsung Blue, respectively. Ozone consisted of Homme, DanDy, dade, imp, Mata, and Looper and Blue consisted of Cheonju, Spirit, easyhoon, Deft, Sense, FLahm, and SuNo. Ozone had already qualified for the the Season 3 World Championship at the time of the signing but they failed to make it out of groups, being upset by Fnatic and Gambit Gaming.

2014 Season

The organization competed in the SK Telecom LTE-A LoL Masters 2014 tournament, finishing second in the round robin and then beating CJ Entus 2-0 and SK Telecom T1 3-0 to win the tournament. Samsung Blue won HOT6iX Champions Spring 2014 3-1 against NaJin White Shield, marking the organization's first OGN victory. Shortly afterwards, Ozone renamed itself to Samsung White. With the OGN victory and both Samsung White and Samsung Blue placing well in multiple seasons of Champions, Blue and White both qualified for the 2014 Season World Championship. White and Blue played each other in the semifinals but White came out on top 3-0, paving the way for a 3-1 victory in the finals against Star Horn Royal Club.

2015 Season

When KeSPA announced their new format for OGN and the prohibition against one organization holding multiple rosters, Samsung released all of its players on both rosters. The team was invited to compete in Champions Spring 2015. On December 2nd, 2014 a preliminary roster for that tournament was announced, including cuvee, Eve, BlisS, Fury, and Wraith.[1] Samsung finished in last place in the round robin, with a 2-12 set record and a 2-26 game record, forcing them to play in the Champions Summer 2015 Promotion Tournament. They were placed in a group with Prime Clan and Xenics and won both of their sets, qualifying for the SBENU Champions Summer 2015. Prior to the start of the summer season, they added substitute players Crown and Luna, expanding their roster to 9 players. Samsung ended in seventh place at the end of the season, missing playoffs but qualifying for the next season of LCK.

2016 Preseason

Samsung competed in the 2015 LoL KeSPA Cup where they were placed against Ever in the first round. To the surprise of many, Samsung was quickly dispatched 2-0. Afterwards, Samsung saw jungler Eve, midlaners Ace and Bliss, ADC Fury, and support Luna all leave the team. In turn, Ambition, Helper, CoreJJ, and Stitch joined the lineup.

2016 Season

During the 2016 LCK Spring Season, Samsung Galaxy went 10-8 in sets overall. After looking like they could clinch the fifth and final seed for the Spring Playoffs, Samsung Galaxy were unfortunately denied by the surging Afreeca Freecs, who beat them by the game score tiebreaker, giving Samsung sixth place for the split. In the midseason, Samsung Galaxy picked up Bung (renamed Ruler), while ADC CoreJJ moved to support.

Their performance improved in the 2016 LCK Summer Season, going 12-6 in sets overall to place fourth to go into the playoffs. In the first round, they easily defeated Afreeca Freecs in 2-0 fashion, but were unable to advance past KT Rolster in the quarterfinals. That said, they were able to earn enough circuit points to try and secure the third seed spot for 2016 Worlds Championship through the 2016 LCK Regional Playoffs. Samsung earned a bye into semi-finals of the Regional Playoffs where they faced off Afreeca Freecs and were able to advance to the next round in 3:1 fashion. In the finals against KT Rolsters, Samsung Galaxy staged an amazing comeback after fall 0-2 to finally close out the best of five series in 3:2 fashion and return to Worlds.

At the 2016 World Championship, they were grouped with Splyce, RNG, and Team Solomid. After 2 weeks, Samsung finished first in their group by losing only 1 match against Team Solomid. In the quarter finals, they were paired up with Cloud 9 and easily defeat the remaining NA LCS squad in a convincing 3-0 fashion. They repeated their strong performance against H2K in the semi-finals to face off SK Telecom T1 in another showdown of Korean teams in the Worlds Finals like in 2015. After losing the first two matches, the team made a strong come back to tie the series. Unfortunately it was not enough against SK Telecom T1 who were able to maintain control throughout Game 5. Though disappointing, the team as a whole finally proved to their fans that they were a top tier Korean team and would be a serious contender for next year's world championship.

2017 Season

With Haru joining the lineup, the team maintained the synergy they developed from last season to place 2nd at the end of the regular 2017 LCK Spring Season and earn a bye into semi finals. There they faced off against KT Rolster but were unable to win a single match in the best of five series, thus ending their spring playoffs in third place.

Going into the 2017 LCK Summer Season without any roster change, the team remained in the top half of the group for much of the season. That said, the team did rely less on Ambition in the starting line up. Also due to meta changes, Crown's individual performance was not as impressive as his past performance in the previous splits. After Samsung came back from the Rift Rivals/Red Rift where the team failed to take beat LPL teams in the final round, the team maintained a consistent performance to rank third at the end of the summer regular season, largely due to SKT's uncharacteristic 8 game losing streak in the latter half of the split.

With a quarter final bye in the 2017 LCK Summer Playoffs, the first opponent the team faced was SK Telecom T1 who seemed to be back in form after a 3-1 victory after Afreeca Freecs. The team lost 0-3 to place fourth in the playoffs and was forced to play in the regional gauntlet again like in 2016 where they faced KT Rolster. Fortunately, Samsung easily swept KT Rolster to secure third seed spot to attend 2017 Worlds.

At the 2017 World Championship, Samsung Galaxy was grouped with Royal Never Give Up, G2 Esports and Fenerbahçe Esports. They managed to finish second in their group behind Royal Never Give Up, with a 4-2 score. In the quarterfinals, they matched with Longzhu Gaming and they easily defeated them 3-0 in a convincing fashion. Longzhu Gaming finished first in their group without dropping a game. Afterwards, in the semifinals, they paired with Team WE. They won the Chinese team with a 3-1 score. In the finals they met their old-time enemy, SK Telecom T1. Everyone was expecting a strong and exciting final. Surprisingly, Samsung swept their enemies 3-0 and became the World Champion for the second time in the history of the organisation. Even though, the South Korean side didn't succeed in the groups. They managed to overcome their slump and defeat everyone that came across their path to the trophy.

  • September 7th, Samsung acquires the rosters of MVP Ozone and MVP Blue. See their pages for full roster histories.
