There is a world far away populated by graceful and beautiful winged beings gifted with immortality, where an ancient conflict still rages. Like so many conflicts, this war split families. One side proclaimed themselves as beings of perfect order and justice, fighting to unite the world under their law and strong central governance. Those that fought against them saw their kin as tyrants, creatures incapable of seeing the larger view, who would sacrifice individuality and freedom for the illusion of efficiency and safety. Morgana was one who fought against what she perceived as the tyranny of her kind, and for that she was branded "fallen". Morgana was not innocent, having plumbed forgotten ways to gather forbidden might to become a powerful mistress of the black arts. This goal was driven by her obsession to defeat the general of the opposition's army - her sister, Kayle.

While the two were in fact birth-sisters, Kayle struck the first blow by disowning any filial connection when Morgana refused to join her cause. Eventually, Morgana grew in power enough to not only reach, but challenge Kayle. As the time approached when the two would meet in what could be their final conflict, Morgana was suddenly summoned to Valoran. At first, Morgana made a deal with the League's summoners to fight in exchange for greater power. With the advent of Kayle into the League, Morgana now willingly fights in the League of Legends for the privilege of being able to destroy her sister again, and again, and again. She lies in wait for the day the bonds of the Institute of War no longer hold her, and on that day she plans to destroy Kayle once and for all and return home a hero.

Patch History


In a world without mana potions (and generally less early mana regeneration), we've identified a few champions for some emergency rations, giving early mana boosts until they can get their footing and purchase items to make up the deficit. This also means we can really understand which champions relied on mana potions as a crutch to limp through the early to mid game, and we can give additional love if necessary. Mana Regen

In the interest of keeping her strengths strong, we're limiting her early lane control with the powerhouse pushing of Tormented Soil so she isn't great in every situation."

"We're continuing our comprehensive pass at the game's older character textures. As with previous installments, our goal is to improve parity with newer releases and make sure everybody looks at home on the newly-updated Rift. Black Shield has a lower base and R doesn't nuke as hard.

"Regardless of how she's played (as a mage or a support), Morgana brings a lot of utility and damage to the table, so we're looking to reduce some of her overall effectiveness. While we don't usually talk about specific changes in the context, reducing the base value on Black Shield means support Morgana will have to choose between the defense it provides and the offensive power she gets from leveling Dark Binding, while mage Morgana will be less affected with her AP ratios compensating at rank 1."

v3.14 Context: Sometimes we want to adjust a champion's overall power without affecting their balance and functionality, we first look for ways to add gameplay and readability for their opponents. In Morgana's case, that means displaying the radius of Soul Shackles to both Morgana and her victims.

  • R - Soul Shackles
    • Now displays the leash radius to Morgana and her victims for the duration of the effect

Summary: Morgana’s attack range, base attack speed, and basic attack animation have been improved across the board. Tormented Soil no longer reduces magic resistance per tick, instead it deals additional damage based on an enemy's missing health. Morgana should deal roughly the same amount of overall damage, although there’ll be some variation due to how the new Tormented Soil works.

Context: This change is more of a modernization of Morgana and her Tormented Soil by rewarding her for being continuously aggressive with landing her Dark Bindings. Specifically, we wanted to reinforce Morgana's standard damage combo of Dark Binding to Tormented Soil, rather than the "ideal" combo of using Tormented Soil's magic resistance reduction to make Dark Binding deal more damage.

  • Black Shield now only blocks disabling buffs (stuns, silences, taunts, blinds, slows, fears, roots, snares, and suppressions). For example, Mark of the Assassin, Starcall, and Tormented Soil will now go through Black Shield. The damage they deal will still be absorbed.


  • Dark Binding hitbox size reduced.
  • Black Shield ability power ratio reduced to .8 from 1.

  • Dark Binding now deals its damage up front as opposed to over time. The damage is 80/135/190/245/300 with a .9 AP ratio.

    • Decreased the saturation.
    • Reworked the golden detailing.
    • Adjusted aura and attack particles to fit the theme.

    • It now grants 15/25/35% Spell Vamp (as detailed below, works at 33% for Tormented Soil and Soul Shackles)..
    • It no longer works with non-spell damage Sunfire Cape, Thornmail, etc).

    • Ability Power ratio now properly applies across all levels.
  • Tormented Soil
    • Now applies a stacking and renewing Magic Resistance debuff of 4/5/6/7/8 to targets in area. Lasts 2 seconds and stacks up to 5 times.
    • Total damage decreased to 125/200/275/350/425 from 150/225/300/375/425 (actual damage approximately the same/higher with MR debuff included).
    • Mana cost decreased to 70/90/110/130/150 from 80/100/120/140/160.
  • Soul Shackles
    • Initial burst Ability Power ratio decreased to .5 from 1.
    • Secondary burst Ability Power ratio increased to 1.5 from 1.


  • Fixed a discrepancy in Dark Binding's tooltip. The tooltip now lists the damage dealt per second (the ability itself still deals damage every half second).

  • REMAKE Dark Binding Fires a line missile (skill shot), the first unit it encounters becomes unable to move for 4 seconds and takes damage over the duration.

    • Duration decreased to 5 from 7.
    • Periodic Damage Dealt changed to 25/40/55/70/85 per tick from 20/30/40/50/60 per tick (Combine with the Duration adjustment this means it does a total of 425 Damage at Level 5 previously it did 420).
    • Cooldown reduced to 14 from 18.
    • Ability Power Ratio changed to 0.3 from 0.2.
