(Innate) Brand's spells light his targets Template:Kw, dealing 2% of their maximum health as magic damage over 4 seconds per stack, and empowering his abilities against them. Template:Kw stacks up to three times.

When Template:Kw reaches max stacks on a Champion or large monster, the Template:Kw becomes unstable. It detonates after 2 seconds, dealing magic damage to each nearby enemy. That champion cannot stack Template:Kw again within 4 seconds.

Patch History

Brand's always been the guy who sets the world on fire with area damage and percent-health burns. Unfortunately for him, the proliferation of the percent-health mechanic in other spaces has robbed him of half of that identity. Even among mages, the Rylai's/Liandry's combo allows other champions to fill the same niche. This leaves Brand as a pretty generic source of damage, meaning he’s only picked when overtuned, rather than for any strategic purpose.

We're updating Blaze to cement Brand's status as the go-to battle mage for AoE damage. No one punishes a team for clumping together like Brand: the new Blaze creates a volatile chain reaction as detonations stack Blaze onto all enemies caught in the blast, hastening their own detonations for even more explosive damage. Toss in a markedly more sadistic targeting system for Pyroclasm, and Brand becomes a true living inferno.

NEW YOU DROP THE BOMB ON ME : Blaze stacks up to three times. Upon reaching maximum stacks, Blaze detonates in a large area around the target.
BLAZE DAMAGE : 8% of the target’s maximum health over 4 seconds 2% of the target’s maximum health over 4 seconds per stack
DETONATION DAMAGE : 12-16% of the target’s maximum health (at levels 1-9)

Brand’s flown under the radar for a long time, but preseason’s outed him as one of the highest damage champions in the game. Since Deathfire Touch (Brand’s go-to- Keystone) is also being nerfed, we’re going a little lighter here, choosing to instead tap his efficiency in harassment / waveclear.

In a world without mana potions (and generally less early mana regeneration), we've identified a few champions for some emergency rations, giving early mana boosts until they can get their footing and purchase items to make up the deficit. This also means we can really understand which champions relied on mana potions as a crutch to limp through the early to mid game, and we can give additional love if necessary.

"Like we mentioned in our Visual Effects developer blog, League is an evolving game and, with each day, we're constantly pushing our own expectations forward. Ultimately this means we can always find opportunities to improve and iterate when we don't think we're hitting today's Clarity Bar(™). Brand's R will spread to nearby targets, even if his target uses Zhonya's Hourglass.

When we were looking into Brand's unique niche as a chaos-sowing inferno-mage (that can be his official title if you'd like), we realized Pyroclasm was a pretty neat place to start. In reality, this change is half of what we wanted (and we'll be looking to get the second half out as soon as possible), but our end game is this: rather than thinking of Pyroclasm as a targeted nuke that chains off into everyone else, it's more of an area-effect inferno that starts at a "suggested" point (your targeted cast). After that, however, little Pyro (that's what we're calling him) just goes where he pleases, mindlessly seeking out nearby targets to set on fire.
You'll see this further iterated on soon, when we make it so that if Pyroclasm ever tries to hit an untargetable body (either it gets dead mid-flight or uses Zhonyas or gets Bard ulted) during his bounce time, he'll just fly right on by to another victim, rather than fizzling out on the spot."
