MLG New York 2005 was the thirteenth and final event of the 2005 MLG season, serving as the 2005 National Championship and taking place at the Hyatt Regency in Jersey City, New Jersey from February 25-26, 2006. Halo 2 was played in 4v4 and FFA tournaments, alongside Super Smash Bros. Melee.

With the three Conference Championship events done, the dust was settled and a specific set of players were invited to the National Championships to compete for almost $70,000 overall. Given the utter dominance of Team 3D, who had only dropped one game at the previous event, the remaining teams attempted to bolster their rosters to compete with the reigning juggernauts of Halo. XiT Woundz, who surprised everyone with a 2nd place finish in Chicago but were thoroughly dominated by 3D, recruited Zyos to replace the departed KillerN. Str8 Rippin made big changes, replacing Tsquared and Tupac with Cpt Anarchy from LegendZ and the aforementioned KillerN. LegendZ filled the gap in their roster with Tsquared. Despite their relatively poor showing in Chicago, IGS (now Team Phreaks) stuck together.

When the time came for the event, the result was unsurprising for anyone following the season. Team 3D was unstoppable. They defeated Team Phreaks 3-1 early before mowing through Str8 Rippin 3-0. Team Phreaks battled out of the Losers' Bracket, winning a close 11-game series with XiT Woundz 6-4 before matching 3D's sweep on Str8 Rippin with a 3-0 thrashing of their own. In the finals, Team Phreaks were unable to overcome the 3-1 deficit, and ended up losing 6-3.

In the FFA bracket, Karma of Team Phreaks took no prisoners. He mowed through Walshy, Cpt Anarchy and Strongside twice, only allowing his opponent to reach double digits once on his way to becoming the 2005 National Halo FFA Champion.

In addition to the championship tournaments, an All-Star Classic took place pitting players from the east and west coasts against eachother. Between Halo and Smash, the East Coast won 12-6.[1]
