CoDPedia InfoBox

Hi! I was wondering if you could help us create an info box template similar to this http://gyazo.com/42d6a4255f4fbf0abe96e84bfb12cc1c we are still pretty new to wiki's and could use some help! Also we can't seem to figure out how to change the header text, its currently grey on grey and blends in. Brocc0 (talk) 16:55, 5 December 2013 (UTC)

Absolutely! I'm also here to help get this wiki skin in shape — Game widow (talk) 16:56, 5 December 2013 (UTC)

Brackets/Collapsible Tables

Hi I was wondering if it was possible for us to get several bracket templates. We could really use 4, 8, and 16 team single elimination and 4,8, and 16 team double elimination brackets. Also, a 6 team bracket is going to be needed because of the new Pro Circuit Season. Finally, how do we make collapsible tables? I used the commands straight from the wikipedia collapse help page and that did nothing so I am missing something?

Thanks

of course, could you give me some idea of what you want them to look like ? As for collapsible tables, we need to add some code for that, but it's all do-able — Game widow (talk) 22:48, 16 February 2014 (UTC)

Brackets/Collapsible Tables cont.

Sorry not sure if I was supposed to add on to that previous one or add another section? Anyway, the brackets as many from here lol:Category:Brackets as possible would be great just so we are p prepared for when a situation arises. But the ones we need sooner would probably be the 4 team single elimination(4SEBracket), 6 team single elimination(6SEBracket), and 16 team double elimination(16DEBracket). In parentheses I put the name of the template on that page. Or is there a way to make them look even better? The two sites are both from Curse so it shouldn't be an issue, correct? And thanks for the fast response!

I forgot to mention, we have a 4 team bracket that we got from Wikipedia I believe however it messes up the finals for some reason as can be seen here, Call of Duty Winter Invitational#Playoffs. That is why a new one would be great.

OK .. so the bracket templates you currently have are here. Let me know if you need other ones — Game widow (talk) 14:08, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

--XiSerbia (talk) 17:53, 17 February 2014 (UTC) Wow, thank you so much. Also I noticed some other templates added in? Do you think you can explain those? Also, would it be possible to add this as a template .... http://cod.gamepedia.com/Call_of_Duty_Winter_Invitational#Tuesday.2C_January_28th.2C_2014 The scoreboard we have between the two teams that has the maps/scores is what I'm referring to. It takes up a bit of space when all the alignments and everything has to be done manually so a template would be quite useful. Thanks again

Sure i can make a template, but i'd need to know some of the parameters. Could do a mock up that doesn't have specific teams, but placeholders? That way i can see where there's overlap (if any). You can just put it here on my talk page — Game widow (talk) 17:56, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

Here's actually a cleaner look at it http://cod.gamepedia.com/MLG_Pro_Circuit_Season_1#Week_1_.282.2F17-2.2F23.29 . If possible, I'd like so that there was a show hide feature for the detailed score report under the table for every day.

Team 1 vs. Team 2
Team #1 Image(links to team) Maps won for team 1 vs. Maps won for team 2 Team #2 Image(links to team)
Map 1 score fore team 1 Map 1 name/gamemode Map 1 score fore team 2
map 2 score-team 1 map 2 name/gamemode map 2 score-team2
map 3 score-team 1 map 3 name/gamemode map 3 score-team 2
map 4 score-team 1 map 4 name/game mode map 4 score-team 2
map 5 score-team1 map 5 name/game mode map 5 score-team 2

So something like that. The team that won the map, always has their score in bold and the overall score by the images is also in bold for the winning team. Also, this one is for a best of 5 series, however sometimes there are best of 11 series' as well, so if it's possible for the template to go to 11 it would be great

Edit: I noticed that you added the collapse in but when that happens it doesn't say which teams are there. So is it possible to add that into the template as well? Like if you noticed, in the playoffs section even when it's hidden it still says Semifinal 1. So during the regular season matches it could say something like Optic vs nV. Wouldn't need any images, just the text so people know.

I've added the javascript code that enables the show/hide roster buttons to work when you use the TeamRoster templates. Also, for now i've made the sections collapsible on the Winter Invitational page. i'm still thinking about the template. — Game widow (talk) 19:13, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

Okay thanks. I updated the above outline with possibly having a the two names at the top so that they show when the rest of the score is hidden. Once again, thanks a bunch. Also how does the GroupTable template work? Is it more beneficial than creating a table from scratch? Can we add as many columns as we'd like or is it all set up already?

Scorebox template

Are there any updates on the possible template? Thanks

Sorry, got sidetracked by other projects (i manage over 70 wikis), here's my first stab at it: Template:Scorebox .. as for the Group tables, honestly, i have no idea what they're for or how they're used. If you look up that same template on LOL wiki and use the "What links here" link under tools, you might see where they use it and that might give you some idea — Game widow (talk) 23:48, 21 February 2014 (UTC)

So the template is fine except for this http://gyazo.com/4de0771dbe1b989a35482edc54fa3e24 I'm not sure why the 25px always shows up there

Link me to an actual example and i'll figure it out — Game widow (talk) 02:11, 26 February 2014 (UTC)

http://cod.gamepedia.com/MLG_Pro_Circuit_Season_1#Week_2 Also, is it possible to make it collapsible like the other ones on the page?

TeamName Templates

I'm confused as to how to properly add teams to the teamname templates split by letters. Whenever I add them, the image of the team doesn't appear. For example   Curse NY shows the image, however   Curse Youth does not. I added Curse Youth to this page http://cod.gamepedia.com/Template:Teamnames/C exactly the same way CurseNY is on there but the image doesn't appear. Is there another page I need to add this to? Thanks

That's because the template expects the name of the logo to be CrsYthlogo_std.png. Simply creating a redirection from the filename to the file you want to use works. I've done that here, you can follow the same pattern for any other teams that aren't working. — Game widow (talk) 19:24, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
I'm really unsure how that template does its voodoo, but at least some of these things must happen:
  1. There must be a redirection from whatever value you have in followed by logo_std2.png to the actual logo file you want used. Example: File:Xfinitylogo_std2.png redirects to File:Xfinity.png
  2. There must be a redirection from whatever value you have in followed by logo_std.png to the actual logo file you want used. Example: File:Xfinlogo_std.png redirects to File:Xfinity.png
  3. There might also need to be an all lower case version of the team name in the appropriate Teamnames/? template (this one is easy as i don't think you can really have too many variations)
  4. Once that file is updated and saved, the parent template {{Teamnames}} has to be put into edit mode and resaved.
I think that does it, but i'm still not sure which if any steps can be left out — Game widow (talk) 20:06, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
I've been testing. So far, I've only done step 2 for VexX and it seems ok. Let me know if you find any places it doesn't work. — Game widow (talk) 20:13, 3 March 2014 (UTC)

Thanks. I'll keep using it and see if I run into any issues. But how exactly does creating the redirect file work? Sorry haven't done that before.

Just type the filename (eg: File:Xfinitylogo_std2.png) as you want it in the search bar. That should bring up the page not found screen with a red link to create the page, same as any other page, then on the new blank page, type the following: #REDIRECT[[:<destination filename>]]
Example:
#REDIRECT[[:File:Xfinitylogo_std2.png]]
Make sure the destination file begins with a colon — Game widow (talk) 12:13, 4 March 2014 (UTC)

Predictions/Bracket

I was wondering if it we could possibly incorporate something like this into this wiki? http://lol.gamepedia.com/Season_3_World_Championship/Predictions/Group_Stage

Now their's has various questions as well for predictions, all we really want is predicting the results in the bracket. It would be something similar to how people fill out brackets for the NCAA basketball tournament. The best bet would be to incorporate it with the Call of Duty Championship at the end of March. If it was possible to get up and running by this weekend for the US regional for a test run, that would be fantastic.

But anyway to summarize how it could work:

  • People create accounts to fill out brackets
  • 1 point for every correct winner picked (possibly 1 more point if correct scores? not necessary)
  • Pick winner and score in grand finals

Something like this would be super fun for fans and could be huge for the wiki in terms of popularity so it would be insane if we could get it done. Thanks.

I honestly have no idea what they've done there. Your best bet would be to contact one of the admins of that wiki and ask if they can help you recreate it — Game widow (talk) 12:19, 4 March 2014 (UTC)

TeamName Templates and Images

Hey, sorry I'm still confused on the redirect thing. http://cod.gamepedia.com/Call_of_Duty_Championship_2014#Group_Stage A lot of the teams on that page are created but because of that redirect thing don't have the image show up? How does it work again?

Have you made sure that the exact spelling of the team names you are using is covered in the teamname template ? There isn't any more to it that i can figure out than what i listed above — Game widow (talk) 13:44, 20 March 2014 (UTC)

Standings

Hi I was wondering how to get a green dividing bar on a table like this one, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_FIFA_World_Cup#Group_A. We are looking to add it to this page http://cod.gamepedia.com/Call_of_Duty_Championship_2014#Group_A

Thanks

Just add style="border-bottom: 2px solid green;" to the beginning of the row definition on the row where you want it — Game widow (talk) 22:19, 20 March 2014 (UTC)

Okay so last time, so say I have the logo SK.png what are the redirect files/pages I need for it to show up again?

read the TeamName Templates section above — Game widow (talk) 23:09, 20 March 2014 (UTC)

I did all those steps for SK and it still gives me x25px so I'm not sure what's wrong.

Images Issue

For some reason the SK image is not working here... http://cod.gamepedia.com/Call_of_Duty_Championship_2014#Group_D When you go over the x25px next to SK Gaming it says this SKlogo_std.png however if you look that up I have already created it and it redirects to the SK logo. So I'm not sure how to get it to work

The issue there was that you had made the redirections for Sk (lowercase k) rather than SK (uppercase K). It's fixed now — Game widow (talk) 01:16, 26 March 2014 (UTC)

Flags

Is it possible to get the entire flags template over from League of Legends? This is theirs... http://lol.gamepedia.com/Template:Flag

We have a few flags currently in ours, but you can overwrite those with these if possible. Thanks

Also, you said we should ask the admins about the predictions page, however I posted on their site a while back and still got no response. It doesn't seem like they are active on that page so I was wondering if there was another way to contact them? Thanks

You'd be better off asking one of the lol admins for that. — Game widow (talk) 14:36, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

I should ask them for the flag template or the predictions?

Essentially, if you want any of their templates and images, you really should ask them. To date, it seems you want them all — Game widow (talk) 15:04, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

Haha well yeah, their site runs extremely well and ours is fairly new with barely any templates so I tend to look at their pages for reference

Front Page Changes

Hi, we would like to change the front page section where the Pro Points are currently located. We would like it to contain 3 tabs with one being the MLG league, one being the Gfinity league, and one for pro points. Is this something you could possibly help us code as I don't have any experience in this language?

Certainly — Game widow (talk) 22:17, 2 April 2014 (UTC)
It's in place, unless i misunderstood — Game widow (talk) 22:55, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

Sweet thanks! Only thing is there a way to change the main title that says Pro Point Standings to 2014 Season?

Sure, and done — Game widow (talk) 23:48, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

Okay so before the title of that section was clickable so you can edit it, but now it's not. So how do we access that specific section of the front page to edit it?

Okay, clickable once more — Game widow (talk) 01:18, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

Awesome, thank you. Last question on this subject, is there a way to change the way the tabs look? http://lol.gamepedia.com/League_of_Legends_Wiki like they did there

Lolpedia is undergoing some major changes and in particular, all their templates are being reviews and optimized, so we'll have to wait until that project is done before we copy any more stuff over here. — Game widow (talk) 16:51, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

Oh okay. What's the best language to learn for these things. What language is used to create the templates and do the more complex things similar to their page?

I wouldn't call it a "language" really, just syntax ... look here and here and for the rest, just general "css" and "html" — Game widow (talk) 00:14, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
