"Conquer with character in Apex Legends, a free-to-play* battle royale game where legendary challengers fight for glory, fame, and fortune on the fringes of the Frontier. Explore a growing roster of diverse characters and experience intense tactical squad play in a bold, new evolution of battle royale."

Apex Legends is a free-to-play Battle-Royale-style multiplayer. Squads of three(for a total of 60 players), each with different Legends that possess different abilities drop into Kings Canyon, to loot and fight. The last team standing is declared the champion.

Apex Legends brings a unique spin to the Battle Royale genre. There are Overwatch-style heroes called Legends each with their own unique abilities, benefits, and strategies suited for different styles of gameplay--aggressive or defensive, laid back or in-your-face. At the start of the game, right after matchmaking, each player on the squad takes turns selecting their Legend. There can be only one Legend on the squad. Each squad consists of three players for a total of 60 players or 20 teams. A team member is assigned the role of Jump Master at the start of the match. The other two squad members automatically follow the Jump Master whilst dropping though they can choose to unfollow the Jump Master. The Jump Master can also relinquish the title to another team member.

Teams land and search for equipment including weapons, health packs, ammo, weapon attachments and, body armor. Areas on the map are categorized into different tiers of loot displayed on the screen when a player moves into that area. Gameplay is fast-paced as teams simultaneously play offense and defense while staying in an ever-shrinking safe zone on the map. If a player is knocked down, they can deploy a "Knockdown Shield" if they looted one earlier while a teammate tries to revive them. If they're eliminated or bleed out, they leave behind an equipment crate along a banner that has to be picked up by another teammate in a limited amount of time and taken to a Spawn Beacon spread out across the map. Players can use Spawn Beacons to bring back teammates.

Communication in Apex Legends is mostly done through the Ping system. Players can ping items, ammo, locations and enemies for other teammates. This one button system can also be used to suggest and agree to suggestions. It has been lauded as a very clever design choice that a lot of players have fun with and prefer to voice communications.

Apex Legends was released to generally positive reviews by critics and several game publications.
